Come spend some time in Maine for the holidays to experience the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens - 'Gardens Aglow' and more!
Time to depart for our annual holiday getaway! We travel North to Portland, ME for our hotel for two nights...the first class Westin Portland Harborview. Our Welcome Holiday Dinner awaits. Portland Stage Theater begins our celebration of the holiday season with a beloved classic - ‘It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play’...the heartwarming story of renewal is presented as a 1940’s radio broadcast with sound effects performed live on stage. With the help of an ensemble and an angel named Clarence, George Bailey learns the million different ways that we are tied to those around us. D
Start the day with a docent led tour of the cultural heart of Portland - the Portland Museum of Art. The PMA boasts significant holdings of American, European, and contemporary art as well as iconic works from Maine. Our tour will highlight these works as well as the Special Exhibit of works by NC Wyeth. Enjoy some time on your own for lunch, more exploration of this wonderful Museum or visit the gift shop. After the Museum, we head off for another highlight of the tour…’Gardens Aglow’ at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. See the Gardens in a whole new light! With over 650,000 lights, Gardens Aglow is New England’s biggest and brightest light display. This outdoor display has transformed the gardens into a winter wonderland! Such a sight to see. We will stop for dinner on the way back to our hotel. D
We start the day with a visit to the Victoria Mansion, a National Historic Landmark, also known as the Morse-Libby Mansion. Built between the 1858 and 1860 as a summer home for hotel magnet Sylvester Morse. The home was designed by New Haven architect Henry Austin and is widely considered one of the finest examples of Italian Villa Style in America. Our self-guided tour theme is ‘Ghosts of Christmas Past’. Continue to Kennebunkport for some free time at the ‘Holiday Prelude’. Kennebunkport has been voted the #2 Christmas Town in America by HGTV! This town is transformed into a magical holiday spectacular hosts holiday crafts fairs, holiday decorations, holiday shopping & so much more. Free time to explore & have lunch on own. We will enjoy a visit to the Seashore Trolley Museum, the largest and oldest museum of public transportation. A visit would not be complete without a ride on the Holiday Trolley!
