For over 120 years, Philadelphia has rung in the new year with a festive celebration, THE MUMMERS PARADE. More than 10,000 men, women and children in lavish, glittering costumes do the “Mummers Strut” down Broad Street. Line the street with parade goers to watch the revelry and cheer on the performances. We then make our way to the Pennsylvania Convention Center with reserved seating for the MUMMERS FANCY BRIGADE FINALE. The indoor showcase is a highlight of the popular, longstanding Mummers Parade. Sometimes described as a cross between a Broadway show and Mardi Gras, the Mummers Fancy Brigade Finale has elaborate costumes and massive props and is a 2 1/2 hour stunning, colorful, high-energy showcase of 11 masterfully choreographed routines. More than 2,500 performers work for one full year to create the themes, costumes, props and drills that comprise the show and dazzle the audience. Enjoy a late lunch at the HARD ROCK CAFÉ before returning to our hotel. This evening visit the SUGARHOUSE CASINO, located on the picturesque Delaware River Waterfront. Try your luck at the 1,891 slot machines, 103 table games and 28 table poker room.
This morning we visit the READING TERMINAL MARKET for a TASTE OF PHILLY FOOD TOUR. Philly is famous for its cheesesteaks, hoagies and pretzels. Learn the story behind these and other local food favorites, and the vibrant and historic Reading Terminal Market where they’re sold during our 75 minute walking tour in the Market. Enjoy lunch on own in the Market before we head for home after ringing in the new year in Philadelphia.
