We board our deluxe motorcoach as we head to Bucks County, PA located north of Philadelphia. Experience the vibrant hues of autumn amidst the charming landscapes and historic towns of Bucks County, PA. We begin with a visit to the historic residence of PEARL S. BUCK. This 68-acre estate is where the Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning author Pearl Buck spent the majority of her life working to ensure the rights of women and children. 2 nights accommodations at the HAMPTON INN DOYLESTOWN. Welcome dinner tonight at a local restaurant.
Doylestown is home to the impressive belt of historical attractions comprised of FONTHILL MUSEUM, MERCER MUSEUM AND THE TILEWORKS; also known as the Mercer Mile. These three concrete structures celebrate the life, work and collections of Henry Chapman Mercer. Mercer was an American archaeologist, collector, and tile-maker known for founding the Mercer Museum and his innovative work in tile design. FONTHILL CASTLE was the former home of Mercer built between 1908 and 1912 as a 44 room concrete castle decorated with Mercer’s personal collection of ornate handmade tiles. Visit the MORAVIAN POTTERY & TILEWORKS where you can take a step back in time through the “working history” museum that still produces handmade tile and mosaics in the same style of Mercer’s original designs. Explore the MERCER MUSEUM, a castle housing more that 40,000 early American artifacts including a Conestoga wagon, horse-drawn carriages and an antique fire engine suspended overhead in the Central Court Area. Farewell dinner tonight.
This morning it’s all aboard the NEW HOPE RAILROAD for our 2 hour scenic ride. Take a glimpse into travel of a bygone era on historic trains traveling over tracks that were laid in 1891 by the North-East Pennsylvania Railroad. We head for home this afternoon after our fall adventure to Bucks County.
